This fellow, who is generally very shy, has learned that this group of senior citizen fisherwomen will toss him the too little fish. One of the ladies had just pulled in a fish causing him to stick his neck out.

Amakihi - Hawaiian Honeycreeper

On the Big Island of Hawaii many of the native and endangered birds are accessible. Knowing the locations and armed with lots of patience, we not only have to find them (lots of chirping/singing), see them, and luckily get a good photo of them. This is the (Ah-mah-kee'-hee) which stopped by on a very nearby branch to pose for his/her portrait. Note: not to be confused with the common and introduced Japanese White Eye which has a white ring around its eyes.

This endangered Hawaiian Stilt is hunting for food on the banks of the Kawainui-Hamakua Marsh in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii.

An endangered Hawaiian bird is seen at the Kawainui-Hamakua Marsh in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii. The bright red shield is said to have been burnt when this bird brought fire to the people.

IBIS-Not a Cattle Egret

Jack Jeffrey told me about this bird. Since it was him, it must have been important so I went and shot it. From the net it seems this is a rare bird for Hawaii, that it may have come from a very small population from another island. The beginning of that population may have been from people or by flying from the mainland US. This bird has brown eyes and beautiful colored wings. Hilo, Hawaii Oct 23, 2009.

Oregon Ducks?

I think these are some type of cormorant, but not sure. I followed them for about an hour in a lake near Sisters, Oregon. Mom was leading them around and all were diving and some came up with some sort of crustacean, crawdads? Anyway the kids began settling down on the log and mom joined them for a nap.
