Great White Lunch Time??

Very interesting! It is actually the upper half of the tail fluke of a playing baby whale.

Here are a series of photos of a baby whale that breached about 17 times. As you can see, it performed near shore. Mother, though out of sight, was right next to her youngster the whole time!! Can you imagine what folks would be doing if mom was breaching there?

Whale Watch Trip

It has taken four years to get some decent breaching shots. This guy was actually one of a pair that was breaching at the same time(within 1.5 seconds of each other).

Hawaii: Sunset & Whale's Tail

My sister and niece were looking for whales off to the left. I was looking for sunset with their silhouettes. A later blowup showed the whale's tail in the center. Click on photo for larger view.

Hawaii Whales

Hawaii's humpback whale season, from December through April, is exciting to visitors and locals alike. Whale watchers eagerly await the telltale spouting indicating the location of whales. Giant splashes, most easily seen, are the remains of a likely breach missed by the viewer, who will then wait several minutes in hopes of actually seeing the whale breach.

The pair of whales are a mother with her calf sticking its nose up, another is checking out the boat, another is simply swimming along and the last is tail-slapping.
